Keep it away from heat and direct sun. Let it dry at room temperature after rain. Condition it two or three times a year, and hang it on a wide hanger.

1. Keep it dry and cool. Store the jacket away from direct sunlight and radiators. Heat dries the leather out and makes it crack.
2. Wipe it down after rain. Pat the jacket with a dry cloth and let it air dry at room temperature. Never use a hairdryer or heater.
3. Condition two or three times a year. Work a small amount of leather conditioner in with a soft cloth, then buff it off. This keeps the grain supple.
4. Hang it on a wide hanger. A broad wooden hanger holds the shoulders in shape. Avoid thin wire hangers and tight garment bags.

Check the grain, the creases and a cut edge. Real leather has an irregular grain that never repeats. It creases softly when pressed and shows a fibrous edge where it is cut. Imitation leather has a printed, repeating pattern and springs back flat. Its cut edge shows a plastic layer over fabric.
